Oracle has ended development of OpenJDK 8 and will not be providing public updates or patches to this older version of Java. As a result, Sumo Logic has selected Amazon Corretto as the JRE it will use in collectors going forward from April 2019, replacing Oracle’s OpenJDK. Corretto is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 2, with the Classpath Exception.
Amazon has announced that updates to Corretto are planned to be released on a quarterly basis, and urgent fixes (including security) will be provided when they are available and ready to use. Amazon’s release policy and cadence is very similar to Oracle’s policy for OpenJDK, and we plan to package new versions or updates of Corretto into the collector as become available from Amazon. Sumo Logic will continue to release a new version of the collector with the latest updates of the JRE within 30 days of its release from the JRE vendor.
Please note, because Amazon does not provide a build of Corretto for 32 bit Linux, Sumo Logic will no longer release new collectors for 32 bit Linux after March 2019.
