Problem:
I have a dashboard with a panel time-range configured as "Yesterday". When I attempt to switch this dashboard to LIVE mode I receive a warning message stating "This panel cannot be converted to Live Mode because it has a literal time range (e.g., yesterday)."
Resolution:
Live Mode dashboards provide a real-time view of your system by continuously comparing the parsed timestamps of your incoming messages to the configured time range of the panel. Due to the way incoming data is processed and compared against the panel queries, Dashboards in Live Mode must use a relative time-range, such as Last 15 Minutes, Last 24 Hours, -4h, -2d, etc.. Absolute time ranges such as Yesterday and Today, or specific time ranges such as 6/1/2018 to 6/2/2018 are not supported within a Live Mode dashboard.
If you currently use an absolute time range within any of your dashboard panels you will need to update the time ranges of those panels to a relative time range before switching the dashboard to live mode via the following steps:
- As a user with edit permissions to the Dashboard, select the Edit icon found in the top-right menu of the Dashboard.
- Within each panel, you need to update, click on the current time range within the panel window and then select a relative time range from the list or type in a relative time range, such as -4h -2d, etc.. into the selection prompt.
Alternatively, you may apply a single time range to be used across all panels by selecting the dashboard time range menu from the top-right menu of the Dashboard and then select a relative time range from the list, or type in a relative time range, such as -4h, -2d, etc.. into the selection prompt. - Once all panels have been updated, or a dashboard level time range has been applied, select the Done Editing button to apply the changes.
