Question:
We are looking to install Sumo Collector on an AIX server. Looking for the recommendation on binary to utilize and if this is supported by Sumo Logic?
Answer:
Sumo Logic does not officially support performing the collector installation on AIX operating system server. However, you should be able to install a collector on AIX.
You can download the newest version of the collector from here https://help.sumologic.com/Send-Data/Installed-Collectors/05Reference-Information-for-Collector-Installation/02Download-a-Collector-from-a-Static-URL. It should be the tarball version.
Go through the install steps with the latest version of the collector (and new 1.8 JRE), you might have to install it JRE 1.8 manually for AIX and follow the steps as per attachment.
Please note that the attached document was for a very old version and might or might not work for the latest version.
Below are some other recommendations as an alternative to ingesting logs for AIX.
1) rsyslog - push the logs from the AIX hosts to a centralized non-AIX host and collect from there
2) Remote file source - configure a remote file source on a non-AIX host to collect the logs
