HTTP Source setup
I am new to SumoLogic. I think I need to set up an HTTP Source so that I can log data with a curl command (api) to a locally installed collector. I was reading https://help.sumologic.com/Send-Data/Sources/02Sources-for-Hosted-Collectors/HTTP-Source and I see:
- In the Sumo Logic web app, select Manage Data > Collection > Collection.
- In the Collectors page, click Add Source next to a hosted collector.
- Select HTTP.
In my management consul I do not see the HTTP option. I am guessing that is related to the fact that I installed a Collector on my desktop linux unbuntu system which uses dhcp. Does this make sense?
I would guess the management consul knows this and will not allow a HTTP Source as there would be no way to reliable create an url to get to this machine?
thanks,

You're on the right track with the reasoning. An HTTP source goes with HOSTED Collectors, rather than an INSTALLED collector as you have in place. You can probably just log the data to file and pick it up that way with the installed collector. A good topic introducing the concepts of hosted vs. installed can be found here: https://help.sumologic.com/Send-Data/01-Design-Your-Deployment
